Privacy Policy for Actio
The short version. Actio asks for a name and email so you can have an account. That is the only information that leaves your phone. Every task you write, every reminder time you pick, every streak, milestone and chart is stored and calculated on your own device.
There are no ads, no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers and no behavioural tracking in Actio. We do not sell, rent or trade your data.
Pushkar ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Actio mobile application ("Actio" or "the Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information Actio handles, where it is stored, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Account information you provide
An Actio account is required to use the app. When you register we collect:
- Full name — shown on your Account screen, and editable at any time from within the app
- Email address — used to identify your account and sign you in
- Password — hashed and stored by our authentication provider; we never see or store it in plain text
If you sign in with Google instead, we receive only your basic profile information (name and email address) from Google. The OAuth exchange is handled by our authentication provider; we do not receive your Google password.
1.2 Content you create in the app
The following is written to your device's local storage and is not transmitted to us:
- Task titles, and note text where a task has any
- Task dates, completion status, and whether a task repeats
- Repeating-task series (the title and note shared by the whole series, and how far ahead it has been generated)
- Your reminder settings — whether the morning and evening reminders are on, and the times you chose
- Your preferences — the sound effects and haptics toggles
- A cached copy of your account name and email, so the app opens instantly and works offline
1.3 Statistics and milestones
Your streaks, momentum score, completion rates, consistency heatmap, records, insights and milestone badges are derived on your device from the tasks already stored there. They are recalculated as you use the app and are never uploaded, aggregated or shared.
1.4 Technical information
- Network connectivity status — read from the operating system so the app can show whether you are offline. The status itself is not recorded or sent anywhere.
- App and device version — read on demand, and only included in a support email if you choose to send one from the app's "Report a bug" or "Contact us" options. You can see and edit that email before sending it.
2. What we never collect
Actio contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK. Nothing about how you use the app is reported back to us.
Specifically, Actio does not collect or access:
- Location data of any precision
- Your contacts, calendar or call logs
- The camera or microphone
- Photos, files or media on your device
- Advertising identifiers or any cross-app identifier
- Analytics, telemetry or behavioural event data
- The content of your tasks or notes
3. How we use it
We use the limited information we hold solely to:
- Create your account and sign you in
- Show your name on your Account screen and keep it up to date when you edit it
- Respond to a support request, if you send us one
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or automated decision-making, and we do not use it to train machine-learning models.
4. Where your data lives
| Data | Where it is stored | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|
| Tasks, notes, dates, completion, repeats | Local storage on your device | No |
| Reminder settings and reminder times | Local storage on your device | No |
| Sound and haptics preferences | Local storage on your device | No |
| Streaks, momentum, charts, milestones | Calculated on your device, not stored remotely | No |
| Scheduled reminder notifications | Your device's operating system | No |
| Name, email, password hash, session | Appwrite (our authentication provider, EU region) | Yes |
4.1 Local storage
Task data is namespaced per account on the device, so signing in with a different email shows only that account's tasks. Local data is protected by your device's own security features (screen lock, app sandboxing and, on most modern devices, full-disk encryption).
4.2 Remote storage
Account records are stored with Appwrite, which handles authentication for Actio. All communication with Appwrite uses HTTPS. Passwords are hashed by Appwrite and are never stored in plain text.
4.3 A note on the "Sync" row
The Account screen shows a Sync row reflecting your sign-in and connection state. To be precise about what it means: your account (name and email) is what lives on our authentication provider. Your tasks are not uploaded to a server in this version of Actio — they are saved on your device, which is why the app works fully offline. If cloud task sync is added in a future version, this policy will be updated before that version ships and you will be told inside the app.
5. Notifications and reminders
Actio can send up to two local notifications a day: a morning plan and an evening check-in.
- They start switched off. You are asked once, during onboarding, and can decline. You can turn them on or off at any time from the Account screen.
- They are local notifications. The reminder text is composed on your device from the tasks already stored there, and handed to your device's own scheduler. No push service is involved and no task content is sent over the network to create a reminder.
- The evening check-in is conditional — it is only scheduled for days where something is still open.
- No marketing. We do not send promotional, re-engagement or "you broke your streak" notifications.
Revoking the notification permission in your system settings stops all reminders immediately.
6. Exporting and sharing
- Export my data writes your tasks to a JSON file in your device's cache and passes it to your system share sheet. You choose where it goes — email, cloud drive, another app, or nowhere. The file is not sent to us.
- Share Actio opens your system share sheet with a link to the app. Nothing about your account or tasks is included.
- Rate Actio opens the Google Play listing or the in-app review prompt, which is handled entirely by Google Play under Google's privacy policy.
- Report a bug / Contact us opens your own email app with a draft that includes the app version, your operating-system version and your account email, so we can reproduce the problem. You can edit or delete any of it before sending, and nothing is sent unless you send it.
7. Third parties
Actio shares data with only the following, and only for the purposes described:
- Appwrite — authentication and account storage (name, email, password hash, session). See Appwrite's privacy policy.
- Google — only if you choose Google sign-in, and only for the OAuth exchange that returns your name and email. Separately, Google Play handles app distribution, updates and in-app review as the store operator.
- Expo — hosts over-the-air app updates. Your device requests the current update manifest; this is an app-code delivery mechanism and carries none of your tasks or account data.
We may disclose account information if we are legally required to do so, or where necessary to investigate fraud or protect the safety and rights of our users. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
8. Data retention
- Account record — retained by Appwrite until you request deletion (see Your rights).
- Tasks, preferences and reminder settings — remain on your device until you delete them, clear the app's data, or uninstall Actio. Uninstalling removes them permanently; we hold no copy to restore.
- Sessions — expire according to Appwrite's security policies, and end immediately when you sign out.
- Support emails — kept only as long as needed to resolve your request.
9. Your rights
You can:
- Access and port your data — export every task as JSON from the Account screen, at any time, without asking us.
- Correct your information — edit your name in the app; email us to change your email address.
- Delete your account — email us from, or naming, your registered address and we will delete the account record. To remove your tasks, delete them in the app or uninstall Actio; because they never left your device, only you can erase them.
- Withdraw permissions — turn reminders off in the app, or revoke the notification permission in system settings.
- Sign out — end your session at any time from the Account screen.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to processing, to restrict it, or to complain to your local data protection authority. Contact us and we will help.
10. App permissions
Actio requests the following on Android:
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet | Sign in and check for app updates |
| Network / Wi-Fi state | Detect whether you are online, to show offline status |
| Notifications | Deliver your morning plan and evening check-in — optional, and off by default |
| Vibrate | Haptic feedback on taps and completions — toggleable in the app |
| Run at startup | Restore your scheduled reminders after the device restarts |
| Read / write external storage (legacy, Android 12 and below) |
Declared by a component of the app framework Actio is built on. Actio itself never browses, reads or uploads your files. The only file it writes is the data export you ask for, and that goes to the app's own cache before being handed to your share sheet. |
| Draw over other apps | Declared by the app framework's default configuration. Actio does not draw any overlay. |
Actio does not request access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, calendar or photo library, and it contains no code that reads your personal files.
11. Children's privacy
Actio is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International transfers
Your account record is stored on Appwrite Cloud infrastructure in the European Union and may be processed in countries other than your own. Such transfers are made in line with applicable data protection law. Your tasks are not transferred anywhere — they stay on your device.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and publish the revised policy here. For material changes — in particular any change to what leaves your device — we will also surface a notice inside the app before the change takes effect.
Continuing to use Actio after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
